YOU CAN TELL A TEXAN ...
BUT YOU CAN'T TELL 'EM MUCH!
By
Bryan Flanagan
That headline may be true. However, there are a lot of sayings from Texas that are right on target. Living in the Dallas area, Mr. Flanagan says that everyone working at the Zig Ziglar Corporation can identify with these sayings. Try these on for size:
1. All hat - no cattle.
That simply
means the guy is making himself out to be more important than he really is.
Oh, he might talk a good game but you really know that itís all talk and no
action. This goes along with the saying, ìYou can put socks in an oven, but
they still ainít biscuits.î In other words, donít try to be something you ainít!
2. If you find yourself in a hole, stop
digginí.
This has to do with planning and organizing. Lots of times
we fly off the handle and get busy, yet we fail to realize we arenít getting
anywhere. Stop and check your behavior against your goals.
3. If youíre riding ahead of the herd, take
a look back every now and again to make sure itís still there.
What
a great management principle! If you are a leader, youíd better check in with
the followers. You need to know they are behind you, they are following you
Önot just moving in the same direction.
4. If you think youíre a person of influence,
try ordering someone elseís dog around!
This one will keep us humble.
It is a great reminder not to put too much importance on ourselves and/or our
position in life.
5. Never miss a good chance to be quiet.
And with that, I will...
